New Harmony Shadow Games

Whether you live in New Harmony or are visiting from afar, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to participate in New Harmony Shadow Games.  This fun, free, family-friendly activity is available 365 days a year when it is dark outside — whether that is 6:00 pm on a winter evening, 2:00 in the morning for insomniacs, or before dawn when you awaken early.

How do you play?  Simply go to the alley behind the Post Office in New Harmony (the Post Office is on the corner of Church Street and Granary, if you need to map it.) You will spot the white wood garage door that is part of local antique business The Barn by Jeff and Cindy Smotherman.  The moment you stand in just the right place in the alley and look over at the barn door and see your shadow, you’ll know you are in the right place.  The light from Town Hall will project your shadow perfectly.

At that point, it’s time to have fun.  Experiment!  Get Creative!  Bring in some props.  Get twisty/bendy and make shapes.  The possibilities are ENDLESS and we can’t wait to see what you dream up..

Even if you are doing a solo shadow, you can photograph it yourself without your phone or camera showing up in the picture.  Capture the shadows you make on your device, then post them on Instagram with the hashtag #newharmonyshadowgames — or email them to CapersEmporium@gmail.com and we will post them.

Seasonal variations in when it is dark, so plan accordingly.
